Our Story

The Parent Field was created by Melissa and Stacey, two moms brought together, serendipitously, during the pandemic through a shared connection in early education for new parents.

With a strong foundation in early childhood development, Melissa has spent over a decade supporting young children and developing curriculums in childcare centres across Canada. Stacey, a working mom and business executive, brings a deep understanding of the realities parents face while balancing career and family life.

Together, they share a vision: to build a trusted community of empowered, informed parents. By making the critical first five years easier to understand, and offering clear, practical guidance, they aim to give parents the confidence and tools to support their child’s development every step of the way.

Melissa

I’ve always had a passion for working with children and supporting their developmental needs and interests from an early age. I received my Early Childhood Education Diploma with distinction in 2017, and I’ve worked in the childcare field since 2015 with children aged newborn to 12, including supporting children with Autism, Down Syndrome, ADHD, hearing impairments, nonverbal communication needs, and Fetal Alcohol Syndrome.

My childcare experiences spans across Canada, including working at Reggio and Montessori childcare centers, a nature-based preschool, and as an RECE for the Ottawa school board in both French and English classrooms. I’ve also worked one-on-one with families in their homes, not only caring for children but actively supporting their growth and development.

Currently, I am a Program Coordinator at a medium-sized childcare center, where I implement the Alberta FLIGHT curriculum in a play-based environment. I have also pursued professional development opportunities to deepen my impact in Early Childhood Education, including:

  • Completed the Flight: Alberta’s Early Learning and Care Framework Course called Exploring Early Childhood Curriculum: Play, Participation and Possibilities through MacEwan University.

  • Brain Story training through Oxford University, enhancing my understanding of brain development and its impact on early childhood.

  • Coaching experience as a Program Lead with ASAP Grit Foundation, supporting and mentoring other Early Childhood Educators on meaningful participation and inclusive practices for all children.

  • Pilot Project In-Depth Spark training with the Imagine Institute for Learning, focusing on creating a more culturally responsive program.

Beyond my professional work, I am a mother to an adventurous preschooler and welcomed a baby girl at the end of 2025, experiences that have given me a firsthand appreciation of how precious, fast-paced, and ever-changing the early years truly are. My passion lies in making a positive impact on families by helping parents better understand early childhood development. Through The Parent FIELD, I continue to support families and educators in fostering meaningful learning experiences for young children.

My journey to Parent FIELD was both unexpected and unconventional. In my early adult years, I was focused on building my career and climbing the stereotypical "corporate ladder". Today, with an undergraduate degree in english and a master’s in business, I serve as a Senior Vice President at a global design firm, leading strategy and growth initiatives across Canada.

My husband and I welcomed our first child when I was 36. True to my Type-A, research-driven nature, I approached fertility, pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period with the assumption that preparation would ensure a smooth, predictable return to work. I immersed myself in credible sources: books, podcasts, scholarly articles; also consulted healthcare professionals, took classes, invested in tools and resources, and sought out anything that promised clarity, control, or confidence.

Despite a relatively smooth delivery and a shortened 14-week maternity leave, I returned to work feeling personally recovered—but largely unprepared for the realities of caring for a newborn. I quickly realized how little I knew about what was normal, what truly mattered in the early months, and even what milestones were, or why-the-heck they were being emphasized so early!?

Within weeks of working with Melissa, our nanny, it became clear that her perspective on early childhood development was transformative. Her knowledge, training, and unconventional approach to milestones provided clarity and confidence that I had been seeking (and not finding elsewhere).

That experience compelled me to act. Drawing on my unconventional path into early childhood education, I now bring a structured, research-backed, and solutions-oriented lens to Parent FIELD. My focus is on building a platform for parents that is both practical and evidence-based, supported by a robust ecosystem of expertise in early childhood development.

Our commitment is simple: to create a trusted space where parents can access meaningful guidance, make informed decisions, and discover tools, ideas, and approaches that help make these early years as positive and impactful as possible.
